CBD products are everywhere but is cbd oil hype or help? From CBD magazines, cbd edibles to oils and topicals. A significant development in the CBD timeline was the passing of the US Farm Bill in 2018 that legalized industrial hemp. The key misunderstanding in regards to this bill is that what qualifies as legal CBD. It is really simple. The levels of THC is what determines the legality of the plant. If the plant has THC levels less than or equal to 0.3% THC, than it is legal.

Following the bill, CBD products started to sprout up virtually overnight. Right now everybody is jumping on the cbd bandwagon. Which is leaving a few of us scratching our heads. Just what is hype and how beneficially is cbd really?

The availability of CBD products is often subject to the location where one lives. They may be available at pet stores and local gas stations. The industry is mostly on the rise. By the closing of 2019, the net sales of CBD products are likely to exceed $5 billion. It would be over 700% over the sales in 2018.

Confusion And Clarity

A certain degree of confusion nevertheless prevails among consumers regarding what CBD is and for whom it will benefit. Let us take a look at some of the most common queries that surround a consumers mind when they consider trying CBD products

CBD is a chemical compound from the cannabinoid family and occurs naturally in the cannabis plant.

108 different types of cannabinoids are now known to exist in cannabis. Among them, THC or the Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is the best known owing to its psychoactive properties. The reason why CBD is gaining popularity is due to its therapeutic benefits.

CBD essentially is the second most active ingredient in cannabis. For marijuana medications, CBD comes across as an essential component. It is derived from the hemp plant, which is from the same family as the marijuana plant.

CBD is a component of marijuana by the fraction of one in hundreds. But it is not CBD itself that gives one a high.

As a report by the World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed, in human beings, there have been no indications of dependence or abuse potential of CBD.

Endocannabinoid System

The endocannabinoid system is a regulatory system made up of cannabis-like molecules that are naturally occurring. Endocannabinoids help shuttle messages across the body just like neurotransmitters. They hence help maintain the homeostasis. When the cannabinoids CBD and THC enter our body, they work by interacting with the endocannabinoid system through the receptors CB1 and CB2.

It is in the brain that the CB1 receptors are primarily present. Here, their functionality goes on to include cognition, motor skills, memory, and pain.

CB1 receptors are also a part peripheral nervous system, thyroid, and liver. As THC attaches itself to these receptors, it inhibits the release of some neurotransmitters while increasing others.

The functionality of the CBD is slightly different. CB2 receptors are abundant in the gastrointestinal, immune and nervous system and the brain. The effect CBD has on our bodies is that it may encourage the production of endocannabinoids.

All effects of CBD over our bodies are not known, and the subject is undergoing comprehensive research across the world. Initial experiments have shown that CBD aids with reduction of pain, ease symptoms of schizophrenia, and helps overcome anxiety.

CBD for Medical Purposes

There are several health issues for which CBD is a good option for treatment.

Studies have been conducted on how effective CBD is on different ailments. There have been cases where CBD has been able to halt the specific ailments altogether. It is already proving to be effective for many types of inflammation.

For epilepsy, CBD has shown to be highly effective. In 2018, the FDA approved Epidiolex, a medicine used for the treatment of Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut. They are two of the rarer forms of epilepsy.

One of the more popular ways to take CBD are in edibles, such as cbd gum or gummy bears. They take effect within a time of 20 minutes to 4 hours.

An oil or tincture is another way that CBD can be used. They are CBD in a concentrated and processed form. CBD drops can be placed under the tongue using a dropper, which then get absorbed into the bloodstream.

CBD is also available as pills and capsules and can be taken orally. They look much similar to OTC pills and capsules. In most cases, they contain either CBD isolate or CBD oil.

CBD is also made into topicals which can be applied directly to the body. They include lotions, creams, and oils. They help users overcome localized pain, and come across as an effective remedy for hair care and skincare.

CBD, unlike THC, is not psychoactive. By extracting CBD from the hemp or cannabis plant you get CBD oil. Carriers, such as hemp oil or coconut oil, are then used to dilute the CBD oil.

  1. CBD is certainly all the hype right now.  In Canada this month edibles are just becoming legal to buy.  I think it is going to be interesting to see how popular CBD infused pills, food and gummies really becomes.  The stigma around it still seems to be very real and I think that there is much work to do before we can it is all that.

In the same breath, I have tried it only a handful of times and I do find that it really does help with anxiety and chronic pain.  I still want to see even 5-10 years from now after they have done the research to truly understanding if this truly is the natural wonder drug or not.

Your post was very well written and I truly enjoyed your perspective on CBD.  Anything that keeps us talking about it is great. Good job.

    1. Thank you for taking the time to comment today. I do believe that after the hype dies down we are going to see a lot of positives come out of this plant. Not just the CBD but also the other cannabinoids within the plant. Research is just starting to look at the different types and effects on the body, almost all have been positive so far. Once the hype goes away and the regulations ease a bit I believe with educational sites such as mine it CBD especially will be the mainstream go to in the medicine cabinet. Much much better than opiods for sure.
